... it's what summer is all about in this area.

First; I was asked to return as the m.c. for "Africa Alive." It's a fundraiser aimed at helping children in South Africa who are orphaned due to aids. Local volunteers with KidLinks travel there and build playgrounds and gardens; things many of the children can't even imagine.
If they are allowed to go to school---- many then learn how to care for these area's and even sell some of the fruits and vegetables to make money.
Unfortunately; the event was rained out on Saturday, half-way through the music and art festival.
I mentioned during News 3 at 9; the fest will now continue on Saturday, October 6th. It will start in the later part of the afternoon at Avant Garde' in McFarland. It's being considered a hoe-down, barn-party, October-fest for Kidlinks. The big draw will be Tony Brown and his reggae band.
This is truly a special effort by a special group.

Also during the weekend--- band camp!
If you enjoy the loud, heavy-rock genre of music; you'd love this gathering. We took my niece and her boyfriend as a graduation gift and had a great time with them. It rained the night prior to the concert (see above) and the mud-slingers were out in full-force near the stage early on in the show.. but one plea from the sponsoring radio station D.J. and it ended.
Very nice!
We enjoyed the people watching as well. The dress, hair, hats and even masks (ie: Slipknot) was a definate draw. And even better; we met and talked with many sweet people and spent a great day outside.

Again; it's fun to live here. I continue to look forward to the many fest's I have yet to discover!
