A NEW "YUMMY" TREND...

in the New Year--- is turning out to be an old family favorite.
Remember fondue??

I recall my Grandmother making the best gooey, stickey cheese fondue in a funky orange pot.
The little sticks with the wooden handles (that would always fall off!) just added to the fun of the food.
Just as fast; fondue faded.
Then my mother-in-law gave me a fondue pot two years ago. I thought she was crazy.
She told me "it's coming back!"

And as I learned for our News-3 at 9 "Tomorrow's Trend.. Tonight" report..
she's right!

Here's my favorite fondue recipe. Although made by my Grandmother in the 70's; it includes a slight secret variation. (Add a little flour to the cheese.. it helps the consistency!)

"Ethel's Smoky German Fondue"

1 small onion, halved
1 cut light ale
3 cups shredded yellow cheese
1 cup shredded white cheese
1 tablespoon cornstarch
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon German-style mustard

Rub fondue pot with cut side of onion. Pour ale in pot and warm until bubbly. Gradually stir in cheeses (with a little flour!) Heat until cheese melts.
In small bowl blend cornstarch and milk. Stir into cheese mixture. Add mustard and continue to cook until thick and creamy.
Serve with cubes or rye bread and bite-size pieces of frankfurters.

ENJOY!
