as we venture into the numbers we obtained with regards to Memorial High School.
During our several months long News-3 investigation; we went through Madison Police reports to break out the calls and student arrests at the four large public high schools.
I'm investigating both East (see prior posting) and Memorial;
while Eric Franke is looking into LaFollette and West.

Here's the numbers: Memorial has 68 student arrests, so far this school year.
Compare it to West with 11, East has 18, and LaFollette at 15-- and you'll see Memorial's number is outpacing the other three, combined.
Meaning; Memorial could end the school year with an 88-percent increase from last year.
West is the only other school on the rise-- up 29-percent.
East and LaFollette could both end up seeing 54-percent decreases.

Memorial's also been in the news due to recent violence there.
Several arrests came after a gun was found... several more after a fight.
But everyone we talked says it's the same small percentage of students causing the problems.
The school is looking for a better way to engage those who feel disconnected;
everything from The Black Student Union Council, A Latino Organization..
even an 8th Grade shadow study so the younger students don't feel lost in this very big school.
