MEETING A LEGEND...

...and I don't mean a former world leader or sports figure.

I'm talking about the thrill of meeting one of Wisconsin's own---- guitar-building, music-making, Grammy-winning: LES PAUL!!

It happened in Mid-December during one of our annual junkets to New York City.

My husband, Brian and I; consider The Big Apple a second home.
We've worked in the city on various assignments and enough friends now live there..
we always have a place to stay.

But we think of our December visits as "extra special."
It's our anniversary and it's THE PLACE where ten years ago Brian asked me to be his wife.
Keeping those events in consideration; we try to find a memorable occasion to attend.
December 12, 2005.... now tops our list.
We gathered in an intimate basement lounge just off Times Square with about 100 others;
and when the room darkened, out walked a musical trio with Les Paul at the helm.

Les and his group were amazing that night.
Witty, insightful and full of stories between beautiful songs.
He also invited a few guest artists up to the stage.
The show was over too quickly.

But here's where things get interesting------ as we are leaving the little club;
Les's son is at the door. He's thanking everyone for coming to the show.
We mention we're from Wisconsin---- and the next thing we know; Les Paul's manager is taking us back stage!
Les invites us to sit on the couch for a photo----
then graciously asks us to stay and visit with him.

He wants to know about Wisconsin---- where did we grow up?
Where do we live now? What's happening in his home-town of Waukesha?
We could've spent hours with this wonderful, spry, 90-year-old man.
But he had another show to do! (Can you believe it?? Starting a second show at 11:30 p.m.---whatever your age!!??)

Brian and I talked about our good fortune as we walked through the city that night;
remarking how Les Paul is still open and honest, with a lack of attitude.
We also remembered the many meetings and interviews of other "stars" we've been part of..
And realized some could learn a few things from this man.

When he won two Grammy's this week; it made us appreciate the time with him all over again.

We met a legend--- in the true sense of the word--- and it's something we'll never forget.

Teri
