..and I want to take some time to blog about what we know with regards to the pending transformation.

First of all; industry experts are describing this as a shut-down of the UPN and WB networks.
It is NOT a shut-down of channel 14.
Our station, WISC-TV, operates channel 14.. and will continue to put programs on it;
including News-3 @ 9, once the shut-down occurs.
You've probably already noticed the amount of independent shows; including news and sports, on channel 14.
Again; it will continue, WITHOUT UPN programs in September.

Secondly; those in charge of the current set-up at both UPN and WB say by shutting-down the two smaller networks..
a brand new-- more powerful and profitable one-- will be formed.

We're told "The CW" will be available on regular T.V., as well as cable and satellite this fall..
and offer a combination of programs FROM the shut-down UPN and WB networks;
along with the operators choice of local programming.
(By the way; "CW" stands for CBS and Warner Bros.
Each will own half of the new network and is assisting in the shut-down of UPN and WB.
UPN is already a unit of CBS; while WB is owned in part by The Tribune Company and Time Warner, Inc.
Time Warner is the parent company of Warner Bros.
It's simply one big family!)

Here's the only question still left to answer--- who will air; or be the operator of "The CW" in Madison??
We're told each t.v. market is being looked at on an individual basis; and financial, as well as personal benefits to each station are under consideration.

So finally; what we don't know may be clear--- as mentioned above: who will carry "The CW?"
But what we do know is even more unclouded--- News-3 @ 9 is here to stay.
